Hemmed in Hollow area

IMG_0069This is one of my favorites. I headed out to Hemmed in Hollow to catch some of the colors changing in the fall of 2013.

I was probably about three days late. My objective was to get down there for the sunrise. I left Fayetteville at 3am and arrived at the Compton Trailhead way too earlier. It was too dark to take that steep trail in so I took a little 30 minute nap. It was still dark once I took off down the trailhead with my headlamp but I knew some light would be creeping into the sky by the time I hit the steep and more dangerous part of the trail.

Clouds coming out of the valley as I went down the trail at sunrise.

I arrived at a large rock/cliff overlooking the Buffalo River just as the sun was coming up and managed to catch some of the photos below. I also encountered some of the places I still have a lot of learning to do in regards to shooting sunrises (those photos are not posted ). Hemmed in Hollow was more or less dry but I kind of expected that. It was the sunrise and the river I was after on this day.
